A brief update on plans for the Static Canvas project in 2024

Hi all,

this will be a quick one, but basically I’m taking a break from writing for the rest of the year. Numerous reasons for doing so, including building pressures in the day job, but mainly its down to good old fashioned burnout. The kind you really need to take seriously.

I really enjoy writing, video production, I adore all aspects of creativity but I’ve never really had to contend with the idea that my brain needs time to rest. Recently I’ve noticed it’s taking me longer to produce work that I consider an appropriate standard, and although nothing I’ve published this year I would consider ‘bad’, certainly a lot of it has been a far cry from what I know I’m capable of.

For this reason there won’t be any more posts on here until the new year and I have no plans to release any new videos for the forseeable future. Obviously not a huge tragedy by any stretch of the imagination but I won’t lie I’m a little gutted given how gratifying the process of putting such things together is. And who knows maybe I’ll get a second wind and change my mind.

In terms of the future of Static Canvas, I am planning a fairly major shakeup of the video channel in 2024, which I will go into more detail in a channel update video once I’ve fine tuned the details of that.

This newsletter will also continue, hopefully still weekly posts on a Sunday, but I will probably have to reduce the scope of what I write on here going forward, just so I have a chance to exist independent of productivity.
